Stiles’ Lake Shore Plaza II Awarded Silver-Level Leed Certification
First South Florida Multi-tenant Office Building to Achieve ‘Green’ Distinction
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Stiles today announced that Lake Shore Plaza II in Sunrise has become the first South Florida multi-tenant office building to receive Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) awarded a Silver certification to the 130,000-square-foot Sunrise facility under its rating system.
“Stiles has made a corporate commitment to be a leader in designing, developing, constructing and managing ‘green’ office buildings,” said Terry Stiles, chairman of the Fort Lauderdale company. “In fact, going green is now embedded in every aspect of our corporate culture.”
Located in Sawgrass International Corporate Park at the intersection of I-75 and I-595 and the Sawgrass Expressway, Lake Shore Plaza II earned the prestigious designation from the national, not-for-profit USGBC for incorporating numerous energy-efficient and environmentally friendly features. Designed to “harvest” natural sunlight, the building has sophisticated air-conditioning, heating and indoor air quality systems, water-conserving features and other green characteristics, according to David Siegel, president of Stiles Asset Services.
During the construction process, Stiles recycled building materials, used wood from certified sustainable forests and sealed the building’s ventilation system against dust. In addition, Stiles Property Management uses only “green” cleaning products and pesticides in maintaining Lake Shore Plaza II.
The building also has earned an award for excellence in construction from the Associated Builders & Contactors (ABC) South Florida Chapter.
A joint venture of Stiles Corporation and WLD Enterprises, Lake Shore Plaza II was precertified for LEED certification when construction was completed last summer. With its cost-saving, productivity enhancing features, Lake Shore Plaza II has attracted top-tier corporate tenants including New York Life, T-Mobile and The Florida Bar. According to Tim Foran, New York Life’s South Florida director of operations, Lake Shore Plaza II’s easily accessible location, “green” aspects and quality of construction were the three key factors in his firm’s decision to select the Stiles property.
