Terry Stiles Honored with ULI Lifetime Achievement Award
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Urban Land Institute (ULI) Southeast Florida/Caribbean District Council has honored Stiles Chairman and CEO Terry Stiles with its 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award.
The award, presented at ULI’s 3rd Annual Vision Awards ceremony in Hollywood, Fla. recently, recognized Stiles as a commercial real estate innovator and community steward. Since 1971, he has guided the growth of the Fort Lauderdale-based Stiles organization as one of the largest full-service commercial real estate investment and development firms in the southeastern U.S., responsible for over 37 million square feet of industrial, office, retail space and mixed-use residential projects.
In his acceptance speech, Stiles expressed his appreciation for the relationships the Company enjoys with its partners, clients and lenders. He praised the individuals within the Company for contributing to its long-term success, noting that it is a rarity in South Florida to have such a large number of associates that have been with the Company for over 20 years.
Throughout his career, Terry Stiles has been at the forefront of commercial real estate trends -- from creating Broward County’s first master-planned corporate park in the 1980s to achieving Gold Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification for the company’s downtown Fort Lauderdale headquarters building this summer.
Well respected by his industry peers, Stiles has received honors including National Developer of the Year from the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP) and Industry Leader of the Year from the University of Florida. He heads Nova Southeastern University’s Real Estate Advisory Board. Stiles has created award-winning mixed-use office, residential and retail developments, build-to-suit facilities and master-planned, mixed-use corporate parks. His company is making a significant impact throughout Florida with its commitment to follow “green,” sustainable practices in all projects it invests in, builds or manages.
A longtime community leader, Stiles is an active member of the Broward Workshop, the Broward County Airport Advisory Council and the Board of Directors for Jack & Jill Children’s Center. He has been honored as Fort Lauderdale Citizen of the Year and Downtowner of the Year, and was selected by the United Way as a Community Hero to carry the torch in the 1996 Olympic cross-country relay.
Stiles is a full-service commercial real estate firm with a clear mission: Invest, Build and Manage.
